OPINION ON RELATIVE POWER OF THE PRIME MINISTER AND PRESIDENT

According to a survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan 58% of Pakistanis said that once the new government is formed the Prime Minister should have more powers than the president whereas 29% said the president should have more powers. The remaining 13% did not give a view. The respondents belonging to a cross section of men and women in all the four provinces of Pakistan were asked: Once the new government is formed after the recent election, who in your view should have more power, the President or the Prime Minister? The fieldwork was carried out during the first week of November 2002.

The survey was conducted by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International among more than 1300 statistically selected households in the urban and rural areas of all the four provinces of Pakistan.
