According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 29% of those adult Pakistanis who claim they would not vote in General Elections said they will not vote because of threat of riots on Election Day.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked. If there is no chance of you going to vote, what are your reasons? Responding to this, 29% said threat of riots, 24% said nothing will be achieved through elections, 22% said I don’t want to vote, 19% said there is no candidate from my constituency worth voting for, 14% said no political party deserves to run the country, 7% said have never voted and 3% said support the boycott movement. However, 5% did not give a response.

This question was only asked from respondents who said there is no chance of them going to vote on Election Day.
